🔥 Home Education Autumn 2: Fire, Shelter & Stories 🔥
What makes a place feel like home?
This half term, children will explore shelter, warmth, community and belonging through stories of woodland homes, journeys and survival.
Through hands-on, child-led exploration, they’ll investigate natural materials and discover what makes a shelter strong, warm and weatherproof. Children might build and test full-size dens, create clay dwellings and miniature settlements, weave with natural materials, experiment with dyes and printing, tell stories around the fire and explore seasonal cooking.
Along the way, we’ll naturally weave together Science, English, Maths, History, Design and the Arts through measuring, testing, designing, storytelling, making and problem-solving.
The project will grow in response to the children’s ideas and discoveries, eventually coming together as a shared woodland settlement or gathering place — a space shaped by their creativity, collaboration and understanding of what it means to make somewhere feel like home.
As always at Our Wild Space, there’s no expectation for every child to take part in every invitation. Children are given the time, space and freedom to explore in the way that feels right for them, with learning emerging through curiosity, play and meaningful experiences.
