🔥 Home Education Autumn 2: Fire, Force & Ancient Making 🔥
How have people used natural forces and materials to survive, create and tell stories?
This half term, children will step into a world of ancient makers, myths and journeys, exploring how people throughout history have worked with the natural world to build, create, survive and tell their stories.
Inspired by Norse mythology, ancient technologies and stories such as Arthur and the Golden Rope, children will experiment with clay, charcoal, natural pigments, weaving and dyes; build and test shelters; and investigate forces such as friction, levers and pulleys through practical challenges.
There’ll be opportunities to create ancient-inspired vessels and textiles, make banners and symbols, explore music and storytelling, perform myths around the fire and even cook simple seasonal food where appropriate.
Throughout the project, Science, History, English, Maths, Design and the Arts will be naturally woven into hands-on exploration, making, problem-solving and storytelling.
The children's discoveries and creations will gradually come together to form The Makers’ Encampment - an immersive space showcasing the skills, stories and ideas they have developed throughout the half term.
As always, our sessions are child-led and responsive. Children can engage with the invitations that interest them, explore ideas in their own way and have the time and space to be curious, creative and hands-on.
