Autumn 1: Hidden Worlds & Wild Creatures
September 7th - October 12th
What might be living, hiding or waiting in Our Wild Space?
This Autumn, children will step into a world of mysterious footprints, hidden nests, unusual sounds and woodland discoveries as they become investigators, naturalists, artists and storytellers.
Inspired by The Bog Baby, woodland stories, mysterious clues and found objects, our first half-term enquiry will encourage children to investigate both the real inhabitants of Our Wild Space and the imaginary worlds that might exist alongside them.
Children might hunt for mini-beasts and explore microhabitats, sculpt undiscovered creatures from clay, build miniature habitats and nests, create woodland soundscapes, experiment with natural pigments, draw and classify their discoveries, invent stories and movement, and create their own field-guide entries.
Along the way, meaningful learning from across the curriculum is naturally woven into children's investigations:
🌿 Science: habitats, microhabitats, living things, classification, animal needs and seasonal change
📖 English: storytelling, rich vocabulary, description, poetry, labels, captions and field-guide writing
🔢 Maths: counting, sorting, comparing, measuring, patterns and recording discoveries
🗺️ Geography: getting to know the landscape through secret paths, sound maps, texture trails and model making
🎨 Creative Arts & Languages: clay, drawing, painting, music, movement and drama, alongside playful introductions to French and Spanish
Rather than following a rigid lesson plan, our Reggio Emilia-inspired approach means children's questions, theories and discoveries will help shape where the project goes next.
Throughout the half term, we'll document children's ideas, creations and changing theories before bringing everything together in our final Hidden Worlds Exhibition - a celebration of what they've discovered, imagined and created.

Autumn 1: the cabinet of curiosities
September 7th - October 12th
How do we notice, classify and tell the story of the natural world?
This Autumn, children will step into the role of naturalists, curators, scientific illustrators, collectors and storytellers as they investigate the extraordinary details hidden within Our Wild Space.
The enquiry begins with a mystery: a locked specimen box, an unidentified natural object, a field journal and fragments of labels and sketches. What is it? Where did it come from? And what else might be waiting to be discovered?
Inspired by The Lost Book of Adventure, The Lost Words, naturalist journals and poetry, children will learn to slow down, look closely, question what they find and explore different ways of recording and communicating their discoveries.
They might create detailed botanical and scientific illustrations, investigate and classify natural specimens, experiment with printmaking and natural pigments, make clay impressions of leaves and bark, compose found poetry, record the sounds of different habitats and create museum-style specimen cases and displays.
Along the way, meaningful learning from across the curriculum is naturally woven into their investigations:
🔬 Science: classification, biodiversity, habitats, life cycles, adaptation, soil organisms and working scientifically
📖 English: field notes, descriptive and non-fiction writing, poetry, museum labels and confident presentation
📐 Maths: measurement, scale, proportion and categorisation through illustration, model-making and exhibition design
🧭 History: discovering naturalists and explorers, scientific illustration and how our understanding of the natural world has changed
🎨 Creative Arts & Languages: drawing, printmaking, clay, natural dyes, photography, sound and curation, alongside selected nature and scientific vocabulary in French or Spanish
Our Reggio Emilia-inspired approach means there is no predetermined route through the project. Children's observations, questions and emerging interests will influence how the enquiry develops, while we gently weave meaningful curriculum learning into their discoveries.
Throughout the half term, children will build a portfolio of field sketches, hypotheses, classification work, artwork, poetry, experiments and reflections before bringing their discoveries together to create The Wild Cabinet - their own collaborative exhibition celebrating the biodiversity and hidden details of Our Wild Space.
Six weeks of looking closer, thinking deeper and discovering just how extraordinary the ordinary can be. 🌿
saturday stay & Play
saturdays 10am-12pm
ages toddler+ | from £12 per family
Our Saturday Stay & Play sessions are a chance for the whole family to slow down, get outdoors and enjoy being a little bit wild together.
Designed for children from toddlers upwards, these relaxed, child-led sessions give families the freedom to explore Our Wild Space at their own pace. There are no expectations and no set way to play - children are free to follow whatever sparks their curiosity.
Each week we'll prepare a selection of Reggio Emilia-inspired invitations and provocations alongside all the familiar favourites of Our Wild Space. Children might make potions in the mud kitchen, experiment with water, create with clay and natural materials, build with loose parts, investigate bugs, make music, get messy, swing in a hammock or simply wander and discover.
Activities are designed to be open-ended and accessible across different ages, meaning siblings can enjoy the space together while engaging with it in completely different ways.
Grown-ups stay throughout the session and are encouraged to explore, create and play alongside their children or simply enjoy a cuppa while watching their adventures unfold.
No pressure. No right way to play. Just time, space, nature and plenty of curiosity.
